WHAT I HOPE HAPPENS IS THAT THE COWBOYS HAVE FOUND THE WAY THEY ARE GOING TO PLAY OFFENSE FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON…WE DON’T GIVE A CRAP WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO, BECAUSE WE’RE GOING TO SCORE 40 TODAY…

 BUT MORE LIKELY, THEY WILL REVERT BACK TO MORE CONSERVATIVE WAYS AGAINST TEAMS THEY AREN’T AS AFRAID OF….

 THE REDSKINS ARE GOING TO RUN THE BALL PLENTY…AS WILL THE COWBOYS…THE CLOCK WILL BE MOVING MUCH MORE QUICKLY THAN LAST WEEKS CLOCK DID…52.5 the second highest O/L line on the board this weekend….(behind 53.5 of the Denver/jags game….and AHEAD OF THE SAINTS/PATRIOTS game 50.5)…so My OFFICIAL prediction on this game is the UNDER…

 But I'm also taking the Redskins as well +6....because if you believe that this game is going to go under the number than it’s hard to see how a redskins team that’s scored at least 20 points in each game is going to lose by 6….

 SPECIAL TEAMS….KAI FORBATH HAS MISSED THE LAST THREE GAMES…HE MISSED HIS ONLY FG ATTEMPT IN WEEK ONE BEFORE INJURING HIS GROIN IN WEEK 2….UNCERTAINTY IN THE KICKING GAME MIGHT CAUSE A MISS EARLY THAT BURNS WASHINGTON LATE…

 So my game pick is 24-21 Dallas…but I’m much more comfortable in the redskins +6 and the Under 52.5

I've already done a breakdown of the biggest point spreads in history, and why I will almost always take the points in these situations...but let me add some realatively recent news to the history.

Blaine Gabbart is out this week.  To me, that's good news.  I'd rather have Chad Henne, as a veteran, if I'm trying to cover a point spread like this.  Also, Justin Blackmon came back last week and seemed to prove that his hot play at the end of last season was going to continue.

The threat of a passing game will allow some space for MJD, who has had none this week...PLUS, Jags GM David Caldwell sought out MJD this week to let him know he will not be traded and that his leadership is key to this franchises future...I think he will play accordingly.  Gimmie the Jags and the points...

Saints +3 At NE

If you follow me you'll know I love the feeling of having the team that I think is better getting points. And I think the Saints are better than the Pats.  

Pats have beaten EJ Manual in his first start as a rookie, Gino Smith in his 2nd, Josh Freeman before he was cut, Matt Ryan and a Falcons team that we didn't know was bad, and Andy Daulton last week....not exactly HOF'ers...and Daulton beat them....(the only actual good team of the bunch....Pats got 6 points)...

Drew Brees is a step up from the competition they have played...and the weather in NE is mild today....gimmie the Saints and the points...

I visited the Broncos Postgame

Couple of insteresting points to the press conferences given by John Fox and Peyton Manning after the Cowboys game last night.

1- The Broncos thought the Cowboys were going to try and let them score...and they were going over scenarios on how to not let that happen.  As soon as Romo threw the pick with 1:57 left, the Broncos had time via the 2 minute warning, to discuss the game situation in depth.  Denver was at the Dallas 24 yard line...already in FG range...and saw Dallas with 3 timeouts.  It became clear that the job was to have them burn those timeouts and score with as little time as possible...in fact, the perfect scenario would be to kick a FG with no time left, eliminating all chance of a loss.  THEY DECIDED AT THE 2 MINUTE WARNING THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE SCORING A TOUCHDOWN.

In fact, Peyton said that he was arguing in the huddle with Knowshon Moreno about how he needed to get the first down BUT NOT SCORE on 3rd down and 1 from the Dallas 2.  That's how exact and demanding and thought out this situation was from the Denver perspective.  Knowshon argued that he wasn't sure how he was supposed to get one yard, but not get two....but he did it...

2- Peyton didn't tell anyone in the huddle that he was going to keep the ball on the naked bootleg that ended up being Manning's first rushing touchdown since 2008...he didn't tell his running back...he didn't tell his line...he just decided on his own after his receiver went in motion before the snap.  He saw what the motion did to the defensive alignment and then just kept it himself.

This is the only way that his lineman sell the run blocking to the right side hard enough for him to be clear to run to the left. (according to Manning)

 

Cash's Week #5 Picks

2013 Record: Overall (6-6-1)/Cowboys picks (3-1)

HOU +7 AT SF, GB -7 vs DET, Dallas +8.5 vs Den

Ok..everyone that watches the Cowboys knows that they have done the unexpected and failed when a little prosperity comes their way over the last couple of years.  It's what's so maddening about being a Cowboys fan.  The talent to beat a contender is followed by an uninspired effort in the football version of a shutdown inning...a game they should win to put a couple of wins together and get some season momentum going...

But I don't think this game will follow that script.....at least, not exactly.  I expect the Cowboys to come out and let it all hang out....Jake Z, if you're reading this, I'm talking a flea-flicker type mentality...and I expect it to work (to an extent).

I see the Cowboys taking an early lead...or at least keeping things tight...and I even can see them getting a turnover (Peyton's first INT?) to give the home fans some belief, and the team the lead.

But then reality sets in...the Broncos are the much better team, and they will act like it, as they take control and forge ahead in the 2nd and 3rd quarters...but that Cowboys talent comes back out in "garbage time" and Dallas scores late to cover.  Take the Cowboys and the 8.5 at home.

Houston has beaten good teams in SD and TENN...and they should have beaten SEA...one panicked pick 6 stopped that from happening.  

In my estimation, this spread is as much about name and being in the Super Bowl last year as anything else...The Niners defense is missing key pieces...Pro Bowl level pieces...gimmie HOU and the points...

GB -7 vs DET

I liked Detroit last week as much as I don't like them this week.  I've said it before...GB is a different team when they have a running game and the bye week allowed Eddie Lacy to get healthy.  I expect a pounding game out of him which will set up the best QB in the business when he's being blitzed...
